Dogs Stop Using Pain Medications After Stem Cell Therapy
Survey data reveals more than 62 percent discontinue, decrease use
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - July 10, 2009 - Regenerative cell therapy reduces a dog's dependency on pain medications and improves its quality of life, according to survey results released today by
Vet-Stem. The San Diego-based company holds exclusive rights to fat-derived stem cell therapy in veterinary medicine. More than 5,000 horses, dogs and cats suffering from arthritis and tendon or
ligament injuries have had regenerative cell therapy through their veterinarians.
According to owners, at 90 days post stem cell treatment, more than 62 percent of dogs with arthritis discontinued or decreased use of non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Further feedback from
veterinarians and owners indicated that more than 75 percent of dogs with arthritis have improved quality of life after their treatment.
Previous to regenerative stem cell therapy, owners had few options for their arthritic dog or cat in pain. The most common treatment -pain medication- shows positive results in helping animals deal
with arthritis pain, but many are also known to cause internal complications.
"Dog and cat owners now have an option to help their arthritic pet in pain, with a low risk of side effects," said Vet-Stem CEO Dr. Robert HarmaT“This feedback from veterinarians and owners
shows that fat-derived stem cell therapy makes a significant difference in a dog's life. The data proves just how important it is."
Vet-Stem's fat-derived stem cell therapy is available nationwide in the US and in Canada through more than 2,100 authorized veterinarians. It is used to help dogs, cats or horses that are suffering
from arthritis and tendon or ligament injuries. A veterinarian in either country can become credentialed in the use of stem cell therapy by taking an online course. Thus far, veterinarians have treated
more than 5,000 animals; many have successfully treated multiple dogs, cats and horses.
Vet-Stem’s voluntary surveys included results from more than 50 veterinarians and more than 200 owners of dogs treated with fat-derived stem cell therapy since October 2007.
